How to import SVGs into Cricut Design Space

Here’s a step by step guide of how to import SVGs into Cricut Design Space This tutorial is specifically for the iPad, although the technique is the same for most devices.

Step 1

Click the green download button and it will ask you do you want to download the zip file. Click download

Step 2

Click on the down arrow in the circle at the top of the page beside the search bar. Here you should see the file you just downloaded. Click on it

Step 3

When you click on the download link it will open your downloads, so you may have to use the search bar to find your file, which will be a zip file

Step 4

Press and hold on the file to bring up the list of options. Click on ‘Uncompress’

Step 5

After you have uncompressed the file, you may have to search for it again. You will now have 2 files of the same font name. One is the original file, and the other is the one with the picture that you’re going to upload to Design Space

Step 6

Next open Cricut Design Space and click upload. Then you’re going to select ‘Browse Files’

Step 9

At this stage you will probably need to search for your file again. Select the SVG file.

Step 10

It should then bring you to this screen where you will need to name the file. The great thing about the SVG file is that it imports all of the layers at once. So although this looks like a print file, it is in fact a cut file. Once you’ve named the file, click upload.

Step 11

Your new SVG will now be placed onto your canvas. If you see the red dot on the layers tab, it means that the image is too big for cutting and will need to be resized

Step 12

That red dot will disappear once you have resized the image within the boundaries of the cutting space. Now that it is the correct size to cut, you can ungroup to make changes to individual layers if needed. For this example, I’ll turn the icing orange.

Step 13

Using the layers button, select the layer you want to change. In this case, the pink icing. Selec the edit options and then click the coloured dot beside “basic cut”, bottom left

Step 14

This will bring up the colour options. Select the colour you want and click apply

Step 15

This has now changed the layer colour. You can then select all of the layers and group them again. Now you’re ready to make your cut out!

Step 16

Now when you click ‘Make’, all of your colours will be on different layers, ready to cut!
